We seek a Facilities Associate Director who is highly organized and a self-starter to join our Facilities team at UW-Madison, School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH). The SMPH Department of Physical Facilities is a full-spectrum service organization that builds, maintains, and operates the physical environment of the SMPH campus in support of the university's education, research, clinical research, and outreach activities. SMPH Facilities works behind the scenes to coordinate campus planning, manage design and construction, maintain, and operate buildings and grounds, supply utility services, ensure health and safety, and provide parking and transportation services.
The School of Medicine and Public Health Facilities Group supports and maintains SMPH facilities. This position is directly responsible for operational oversight of programs for various buildings, complex maintenance and repair, construction, and infrastructure initiatives by effectively utilizing resources within all facilities, including spaces leased by SMPH. It collaborates with UW-Madison, UW Systems, and UW Health to provide engineering support and identify and plan short- and long-term operations and capital projects. The Facilities Associate Director will lead construction and infrastructure implementation under the direction of the SMPH Facilities Director.
The incumbent will contribute to the coordinated planning environment within SMPH Facilities. The main priorities will be direct supervision in managing SMPH building maintenance programs and collaborating with units to administer all operational and capital construction plans aligning with UW-Madison and SMPH strategic priorities and the overall campus facilities framework.
The Facilities Associate Director will work with the SMPH design team and facilities building management operations team to propose solutions, and coordinate space preparation, construction, and relocation details as needed. This position will engage in operational and capital project requests from start to finish. This position is the liaison with UW-Madison Facilities Planning and Management (FP&M), UW Health, and leased site staff and contract services. It will represent the SMPH in a respectful, timely, and professional manner.

Required:
- Minimum five years of experience managing facility maintenance and construction projects within a team environment
- Prior experience with facility building maintenance construction and project management, including knowledge of building infrastructure, technology, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and automation
- Knowledge of the administrative structure and functional requirements of facilities in higher education, including outpatient clinical, teaching, and research facilities with wet lab and animal facilities
- Understanding of contemporary technical maintenance practices and techniques. Knowledge of building systems operations, including Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC), refrigeration, steam and chilled water distribution, electrical, plumbing, building materials, building automation, and security systems
- Advanced understanding and experience with construction procurement methods and processes, including project phases (programming, schematic design, design development, construction documents, and project closeout
- Prior experience working with various design professionals and contractors, including architects, engineers, interior designers, and all trades
- Excellent written and oral communication skills to develop and maintain cohesive and comprehensive professional relationships with various stakeholders and design professionals; and to effectively distribute complex information clearly and concisely
- Skill and commitment to providing quality customer service
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to handle sensitive information, and ability to work independently and in a team setting
- Ability to interact and manager complex sequential projects, and align programmatic needs with strategic priorities for multiple stakeholders and facilities professionals
Preferred:
- Prior experience supervising various design professionals, project managers, contractors, and all trade professionals on a variety of facilities-based construction projects within a team environment

The starting salary for the position is $85,000 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
